かぐや姫の物語 [Blu-ray + DVD]

The hand-drawn animation is so delicate and alive, like watching watercolor paintings move, and the story really lingers with you after it ends. I’ve already rewatched it twice and notice something new each time.

The packaging is nice and the dual Blu-ray/DVD set is great for lending to friends who haven’t upgraded players yet. Takahata’s watercolor-style frames really come alive in HD, and the bonus features gave me a whole new appreciation for the decades of work behind it.

The hand-drawn animation here is so delicate it feels like the watercolors are still wet, and the Blu-ray transfer makes every brushstroke pop. I've watched it twice already and notice something new in the backgrounds each time, the story itself is just as moving as the visuals.
