I was a little worried the DVD would feel like an afterthought, but both discs are packed with thoughtful extras that dive into the film's themes. The countryside scenery in the Blu-ray really pops, making Taeko's summer trip feel immersive. A beautiful, quiet story that I'm glad to finally own.
The transfer on this Blu-ray is gorgeous—the countryside scenes have that warm, film-like grain that makes you feel like you're in 1982. I grabbed it for the Daisy Ridley dub and was surprised how much the nostalgia hit me as Taeko’s train ride unfolds.
