The Tale of The Princess Kaguya Steelbook: Buying Guide

Quick answer

Buy the Limited Edition Steelbook if you value collectible packaging and want both Blu-ray and DVD in one set. Choose the standard Blu-ray if you only need the film and prefer to save space or money.

What the steelbook edition includes

This release pairs a steelbook case with both Blu-ray and DVD discs. The steelbook is the main draw for collectors, offering sturdier packaging than a standard keepcase. The set does not list digital copy or extra physical items like art cards, so if you expect those, this edition may disappoint.

Steelbook vs. standard Blu-ray: key differences

The standard Blu-ray typically includes only the Blu-ray disc in a plastic case. The steelbook edition adds a DVD disc and metal packaging. If you already own a DVD player or want a backup format, the included DVD is a practical bonus. Otherwise, the on-disc content is likely identical, so the premium is purely for packaging and the extra disc.

Is the steelbook worth the extra cost?

At the current catalog price of USD 17.27 (compared to USD 26.98), the steelbook is priced lower than its list price, which makes it more attractive. However, prices fluctuate, so check the current price before ordering. If you are a collector who displays steelbooks, the answer is likely yes. If you just want to watch the film, the standard edition is sufficient.

Decision rules

• If you collect steelbooks: Choose this edition for the metal case and dual-format discs. Check for region compatibility if you own a region-locked player.
• If you only need the film: The standard Blu-ray offers the same movie without the premium packaging.
• If you want the best value: Compare the current price of this steelbook against the standard edition; buy the steelbook only if the difference is small.
