Funan [Blu-ray + DVD]

The way the animation captures the chaos of 1975 Phnom Penh is quietly devastating, and the Blu-ray transfer does those hand-drawn details justice. I watched the special features first and then the film, which made the historical weight hit even harder.

The animation moved me in ways live-action rarely does, and the Blu-ray transfer makes every shadow and color in wartime Cambodia feel visceral. The discs arrived with a clean menu and solid sound, so I can finally share this story with friends who missed it in theaters.

I watched it twice in one weekend. The Blu-ray transfer handles the muted tones of the Cambodian landscape beautifully, and the behind-the-scenes featurette adds real context to the story.
